I’m sitting on a plane from LAX bound for Orlando, FL. I’m headed there for a work trip for a few days.
On this plane, my corporate computer locked me out of my account because my keyboard is giving out on me and putting different characters in than the ones I type. That is a problem for passwords.
But, this mechanical failure has given me a silver lining for a little while – a chance to relax and reflect. These days, I am realizing that without being intentional about downtime, I get it forced upon me by happenstance- and this means I’ve become a damn workaholic! It’s something I absolutely need to change.
I could write about this job and my work, but at the risk of divulging too much online, I can simply say I’m in a happy place at my work, working with good people I like. That’s more than what most folks can hope for, and I’m thankful for what I’ve got.
I realized that 10 years ago, I set off on an adventure that would change the course of my life forever. It was then that I decided to make a change – to set off, rip the bandaid of corporate life off, and try my hand at entrepreneurship. Long story short, through the ups and downs, I learned plenty, made some cash, but more important than anything, I realized what was possible. THAT it is possible to, with the will, grit, and some serendipity, great things are possible to create. Freedom is possible to create. A great LIFE is possible to create. I’m not talking about the mundane things – I’m talking about the life-changing level of perspective that is gained when one goes against the grain and pushes themselves.
10 years later, I realize that it’s time to do it again.
Now the stakes are higher. Now I’ve got 4 mouths to feed instead of 1. Now, generational assets are on the line. The world has changed in a huge way, along with the ways to achieve true success. It’s fun to me, to try to figure it out all over again – and I’ve got a few irons in the fire.
I will check back in later this year to see where I’m at, but it’s my hope that at least one of these irons will strike well, and forge the next 10 years if not more ahead.
