Settling Down

I do this thing at the end of the year, usually in my pen & paper journal, but this time, I felt like typing things out.

If 2017 was a year of change (I got married) and transition, 2018 was a year about exploration, fun, and experience. I was lucky enough to be able to work from the road to enable my wife and me to travel the road. To note, we went to the following places from April to December 2018:

  • Antelope Canyon, AZ (red swirly caverns)
  • San Diego, CA
  • Japan: Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, Kanazawa, Sapporo, Noboribetsu
  • Korea: Seoul, Seokchon (east of the country)
  • Big Bear City, CA
  • Spain: Barcelona, Girona, Montserrat, Ibiza
  • Portugal: Lisbon, Cascais, Sintra
  • Morocco: Marrakech, Rabat, Casablanca, Fes, Tangier
  • Boston (for 1 day passing through, long story)
  • France: Bordeaux, Dune de Pilat, Paris, Versailles, Beaune (Burgundy), Lyon, Aix-en-Provence, Marseille, St. Tropez, Cannes, Nice, Draguignan, Grasse, Verdon Gorge (Moustiers Saint-Marie), Champagne
  • Switzerland: Geneva, Interlaken
  • England: London
  • Netherlands: Amsterdam

It’s pretty remarkable to think that we could have covered so much ground, but we made it happen! This year has truly opened our eyes to being slightly more of citizens of the world. It was fun. It was tiring. It was delicious. It was dangerous sometimes. We did laundry every few days and found creative uses for string to dry the laundry. Living out of a suitcase became normal. It was an experience that I wanted to have this year, and in this season of our lives.

That said, it’s great being back home in Santa Monica, where we can resume a regular routine of a life! I missed having my own bed, my own bathroom, and a couch. For the first time in my life, I actually will have an office! I’m super excited for what 2019 holds – and I’m pretty certain there will be some life-changing events to come. 🙂

Looking forward to resuming long-standing relationships while forging new ones as we’re back home now.

To finishing up a fantastic 2018, and going BIG on 2019!
